The Boston Red Sox are a professional baseball team based in Boston, Massachusetts, and a member of the Major League Baseball’s American League Eastern Division. Red Sox history has also been marked by the team’s intense rivalry with the New York Yankees, arguably the fiercest and most historic in North American professional sports. Since 2003, the Red Sox have been perennial playoff contenders and have won two World Series, emerging as one of the most successful MLB teams of the last decade.

The Red Sox are consistently one of the top MLB teams in average road attendance, while the small capacity of Fenway Park prevents them from leading in overall attendance. Every home game since May 15, 2003 has been sold out—an MLB record that has spanned over seven years.

The HTC Desire (codenamed Bravo) is a smartphone developed by the HTC Corporation, announced on 16 February 2010 and released in Europe and Australia in the second quarter of the same year. The HTC Desire runs the Android operating system, version 2.2 “Froyo”. Android, version 2.3 “Gingerbread” update coming in May or June 2011. Internally it bears a strong resemblance to the Nexus One, but differs in some features.

The phone uses a 1 GHz ARMv7 “Snapdragon” processor, includes a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera and an optical trackpad, and was among the first consumer devices to feature a large, full-color active-matrix OLED (AMOLED) display.

During late Q2 2010, HTC made the decision to switch the Desire’s display to a Sony “Super LCD” panel. Although this was brought on by a severe AMOLED panel supply shortfall, the new display greatly enhances text readability because of its improved effective resolution, one of the few complaints people had with the original Desire model.

Compared to the original AMOLED display, the SLCD display has more accurate color reproduction, far less susceptibility to burn-in, similar peak brightness and optimal viewing angles, but a lower contrast ratio.

The new SLCD display was claimed to have similar or better power efficiency compared with the original AMOLED display; however, this has proved to not always be the case because with AMOLED pixels’ ability to completely turn off, black or dark pixels use very little power. However, in situations when the screen is predominantly bright (such as when viewing many web pages), the AMOLED display uses more power.

Major League Baseball on Fox or MLB on Fox is the Fox Broadcasting Company’s presentation of Major League Baseball games, produced by Fox Sports. Major League Baseball on Fox began on June 1, 1996 and will continue at least through the 2013 World Series.

The defection from KSDK and their over-the-air affiliates will make them the 14th out of 30 MLB teams to televise their games exclusively on cable TV.

The national telecast breakdown is as follows, along with the maximum number of appearances per team:

* FOX: Saturday afternoon Game of the Week on a regional basis; up to nine appearances per team. In addition, the network will broadcast the All-Star Game, ALCS, and World Series. Fox Deportes holds Spanish broadcast rights to the World Series. Most Saturday games are scheduled to start at 4 PM US EDT/1 pm PDT, except for games on April 9, April 30 and May 7, when those telecasts will start an hour earlier due to NASCAR coverage and on May 21 and May 28, the latter because of the UEFA Champions League final as those games are tenatively scheduled to start at 7 PM ET/4 PM PT.
* ESPN/ESPN2: Sunday Night Baseball on a weekly basis; five appearances per team. A new broadcast team will be in the booth as Dan Shulman and Orel Hersheiser will join Bobby Valentine, replacing Jon Miller and Joe Morgan. In addition, there are games on Monday and Wednesday nights (with the Monday games moving to either Wednesday nights to form a doubleheader or Friday nights when the 2011 NFL season begins), Opening Day games on both March 31 and April 1, and the Home Run Derby on July 11. ESPN Deportes holds Spanish rights to the Sunday night package.
* TBS: Sunday afternoon games starting on April 3; 13 appearances per team. In addition, the network will carry the announcement of the All-Star Teams in the National and American Leagues on July 3 as well as the Division Series and the NLCS as per the alternating contract with FOX. Blackout rules will again apply here as Headline News will be broadcast in the teams’ markets during the regular season.
* MLB Network: The network will again air a weekly Thursday Night Game of the Week and Saturday Night Game of the Week, and selected afternoon games. Thursday Night games are mostly produced in-house, while Saturday Night games and midweek day games (save for the Civil Rights Game) usually come off the home team’s video production. Blackouts will once again apply here, as viewers in the competing team’s markets will telecast an alternate game off the home team feed of selected teams. In addition, holiday games on Memorial Day (May 30), day games on July 4, Labor Day (September 5) and in addition, commencing in August, expanded coverage of the pennant races will be taking place with additional games being broadcast on Tuesday and Friday nights and Monday nights starting in September.

In Canada, Toronto Blue Jays games will be televised on Rogers Sportsnet. RSN also holds the Canadian rights to air the Fox and ESPN/ESPN2 games if they do not conflict with Blue Jays games, and additional regular season games on a regional basis on Rogers Sportsnet One as well as the All-Star Game and the entire postseason. TSN2 holds rights to the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball telecasts.

In Australia, it is free to air channel One HD and shows up to five games live per week, and European channel ESPN America broadcasts games as well.

Major League Baseball (MLB) is the highest level of professional baseball in the United States and Canada. Specifically, Major League Baseball refers to the organization that operates the National League and the American League by a joint organizational structure that has developed gradually between them since 1901 (the National League having been in existence since 1876). In 2000, the two leagues ceased to be separate legal entities, with the commissioner’s office assuming all responsibilities for running MLB. MLB effectively operates as a single league and as such it constitutes one of the major professional sports leagues of the United States and Canada. It is currently composed of 30 teams — twenty-nine in the United States and one in Canada. In conjunction with the International Baseball Federation, MLB also manages the World Baseball Classic.

On July 11, 2006, rumors of the demise of Major League Baseball on Fox were put to rest when it was announced that the network had signed a new seven-year contract, which will guarantee that the World Series will appear on Fox through the 2013 season. Fox had widely been expected to renew the deal, but it was unclear what they would be willing to air beyond the All-Star Game and World Series.

The package was officially announced on October 17, 2006. Under the terms of the arrangement, Fox retains its rights to its regular-season package, which now begins in April, and remains the exclusive home of the All-Star Game and World Series. Fox’s postseason coverage beyond the World Series is limited to one League Championship Series per year (the American League Championship Series in odd numbered years and National League Championship Series in even numbered years), which alternates every year with TBS (who took over exclusive rights to the Division Series from ESPN) airing the other LCS.

Fox airs a Game of the Week every Saturday of the season. Currently, coverage begins at 4 p.m. Eastern time each week, except during the three NASCAR on Fox Saturday night races (games start at 3 p.m. ET), and the day of the UEFA Champions League soccer finals (7 p.m. ET). An additional prime time game instead of an afternoon aired on June 26, again with coverage beginning at 7 p.m. ET.[1]) Each week Chris Rose sets the pregame storylines from one of the game sites, followed by game coverage at approximately ten minutes past the hour.

This short show replaces a full-scale pregame show that aired at 3:30 p.m. ET from 2007 to 2008, in which host Jeanne Zelasko was joined by a rotating group of studio analysts. This was followed by regional telecasts of up to three games, starting at about 3:55 p.m. ET. Previously, the games had staggered start times of 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. ET.

Also, games have been aired in high definition since 2007. In 2007, only the primary game was aired in HD, but since 2008, all games have been aired in HD.

Fox has certain rights for afternoon Major League Baseball games on Saturdays, and ESPN has the same rights for night games on Sundays. Broadcasters cannot show games of in-market teams regardless of whether the game is home or away as long as the game of the local team has a start time or likely end time intruding on Fox or ESPN’s national window, unless that network waives its exclusivity. This is to encourage people to watch the ESPN or Fox game. A further enticement comes simply through the fact that Fox offers mostly regional coverage. Currently, local broadcasts are allowed on Saturdays if the game starts at 1 p.m. ET, but at no other time. If a game starts at 6 p.m. ET (both the teams in the state of Florida, the Florida Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays, have done this occasionally), the local broadcaster must either join the game in progress or air it on tape delay at 7 p.m. ET, the end of the exclusive Fox window. Also, none of the local 1 p.m. telecasts can be rebroadcast outside the market of the participating teams, specifically on MLB Extra Innings, except that Chicago Cubs and White Sox games can be shown on the superstation WGN America.

Usually there are no other games scheduled at these times, except when a team decides not to change the start-time even after Fox drops the game in favor of a better match-up, which they can and often will do on a few weeks notice, particularly after the All-Star Game. ESPN’s post-All-Star Game schedule is likewise picked as little as two weeks ahead of time (schedules for the first half of the season are usually set during the winter). Other teams simply schedule games for other time-slots, particularly on Saturday nights or on Sunday afternoons. Also, the Texas Rangers often play summertime home games at night on Sundays because of the extreme heat common to Texas during much of the season, and normally receive special permission from ESPN to televise these games locally (their opponent’s TV partner can also show the game). The Toronto Blue Jays sometimes have home games that conflict with Fox’s Saturday afternoon telecasts, as Canada is not subject to Fox’s exclusivity. Unlike ESPN, Fox does not normally permit the visiting U.S.-based team to televise the game live in its regional market.

Fox is allowed to show each team up to nine times during the regular season.

Major League Baseball is divided into the American League (14 teams) and the National League (16 teams). Currently, each league is further subdivided into three divisions — labeled East, Central, and West. The three-division structure dates back to 1994, when the National League expanded to 14 teams. From 1969 through 1993 each league consisted of an East and West division. Before 1997, the two leagues met on the field only during the World Series and the All-Star Game: regular-season interleague play was introduced in 1997.

In March 1995, two new franchises—the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Devil Rays—were awarded by Major League Baseball, to begin play in 1998. This addition would bring the total number of franchises to 30. In early 1997, Major League Baseball decided to assign one new team to each league: Tampa Bay joined the American League and Arizona joined the National League. The original plan was to have an odd number of teams in each league (15 per league, with 5 in each division.) Interleague play, introduced in 1997, would have had to be extended throughout the entire season to allow every team to play every day. It was unclear though if interleague play would continue after the 1998 season, as it had to be approved by the players’ union. For this and other reasons, it was decided that both leagues should continue to have an even number of teams; one existing club would have to switch leagues. The Milwaukee Brewers agreed in November 1997 to move from the American League to the National League, thereby making the National League a 16-team league.

The two leagues were once totally separate rival corporate entities, but that distinction has all but disappeared. In 1903, the two leagues began to meet in an end-of-year championship series called the World Series. In 1920, the weak National Commission, which had been created to manage relationships between the two leagues, was replaced with the much more powerful Commissioner of Baseball, who had the power to make decisions for all of professional baseball unilaterally. In 2000, the American and National Leagues were dissolved as legal entities, and Major League Baseball became a single league de jure, although it had operated as a de facto single entity for many years.

The same rules and regulations are played between the two leagues with one exception: the American League operates under the Designated Hitter Rule, while the National League does not.

TBS is an American cable television channel owned by Time Warner that shows a variety of programming, with a focus on comedy. TBS was originally known as WTCG, a UHF terrestrial television station that broadcast from Atlanta, Georgia, during the late 1970s. WTCG reportedly stood for “watch this channel grow” (although the “TCG” officially stood for Turner Communications Group, the forerunner to Turner Broadcasting System).

TBS typically begins coverage with the pregame show MLB on Deck, followed by the first pitch of the first game about 38 minutes later. Each day’s coverage ends with Inside MLB, its version of Inside the NBA. TBS does not show commercial breaks after the third, and sixth innings (and also after the 9th inning when the game goes to extra innings). Instead, it airs a “Game Break” allowing the studio host and analysts more air time (similar to what is done for British television coverage of an American sporting event). The studio shows originate from Studio J in Atlanta, Georgia, the same one used for TNT’s NBA coverage.

During the regular season, TBS broadcasts a weekly game nationally on Sunday afternoons, under the title Sunday MLB on TBS. These games are not exclusive to TBS and are blacked out in local markets. Under the deal, TBS can show an alternate game in those markets, but the network has elected not to do so thus far. Also, despite initial reports that TBS would carry games on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day, these holiday games are not part of the contract. For many years, games on these holidays were shown on ESPN, but that network has discontinued them (with the occasional exception of when they fall into the regular Sunday/Monday/Wednesday night slots) in favor of other live sports events.

TBS released a partial schedule of its inaugural slate of Sunday games on February 27, 2008. More games would be added as the season progressed, generally two weeks before each telecast date. TBS has the second pick of game after ESPN.

Consequently, highlights of a scheduled game aired on MLB on TBS were not shown on the ESPN baseball highlight show Baseball Tonight; instead local broadcasts of the scheduled game were shown. However, highlights of an MLB on TBS game do air on the MLB on FOX weekly program This Week in Baseball, as well as MLB Tonight on the MLB Network.

Before the postseason, TBS will air any tie-breaker games for divisional or wild card championships. Should multiple tie-breaking games be played, or if multiple Division Series games are going on at the same time, those additional games air on TBS’ sister station, TNT.

All games in the Division Series round are presented back-to-back, with each game scheduled for a 3½-hour window. If a game exceeds this window, the first pitch of the next game will be switched to TNT. If a game ends within 3½ hours, the studio team will return for interstitial programming. TBS’s League Championship Series coverage will alternate yearly. TBS will air the NLCS in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013 and the ALCS in 2008, 2010 and 2012, alternating with Fox.

In 2007, TBS switched the starts of four games to TNT in the Division Series round because the previous games exceeded the time limit. TNT was also scheduled to air Game 4 of the Diamondbacks-Cubs series, which overlapped with Game 3 of the Red Sox-Angels series, but the former game was not played; the night before, the D-Backs completed a three game sweep of the Cubs.

Atlanta Braves baseball games had been a local staple on Atlanta station WTBS (which were both owned by Ted Turner), and subsequently nationally with the launch of its national feed, one of America’s first superstations. Along with WGN-TV, the station was one of the few broadcasting local sports broadcasts nationally, with some even giving the Braves the title “America’s Team.”[1] When Major League Baseball realigned to three divisions in each league in 1994,[2] TBS offered Major League Baseball $40-$45 million a year year for rights to another round of playoffs (presumably, the newly created Division Series). Instead, Major League Baseball along with ABC and NBC formed a revenue sharing joint venture called The Baseball Network (which was abolished after the 1995 season). Meanwhile, CBS was offering $130 million a year to renew its previous contract (1990-1993) before being shut out too.

In 2003, Braves games on TBS began to undergo significant change for the first time in many years. They let Don Sutton and Joe Simpson be the lead commentators while longtime play-by-play men Skip Caray and Pete Van Wieren had their roles cut back. The slogan Braves Baseball on TBS was replaced by Major League Baseball on TBS. After the All-Star Break, TBS brought back Skip and Pete to work with the two analysts while in the following year, the title reverted back to Braves Baseball on TBS. These changes reflected increased rights fee payments to Major League Baseball. In turn, national sponsors could fulfill their advertising commitments by purchasing ads on TBS, in addition to ESPN or Fox

Under an agreement signed on July 11, 2006, TBS earned exclusive rights to all Division Series playoff games, one of the League Championship Series, as well as rights to the All-Star Selection Show held in late June or early July, from 2007–2013. A national Sunday afternoon baseball package was also planned starting in the 2008 season. As a part of the deal, it was decided that Atlanta Braves games would now only air locally. Since the regular season package began, several contests aired on TBS have featured the Braves. TBS missed most of the first inning of Game 6 of the 2008 American League Championship Series, with viewers getting a rerun of The Steve Harvey Show instead. TBS picked up the game just prior to the last out in the bottom of the first, with announcer Chip Caray apologizing to viewers for “technical difficulties.” TBS acknowledged there was a problem with one of their routers used in the broadcast transmission of the relay of the telecast from Atlanta.

Major League Baseball (MLB) is in the transition to a new set of television contracts. The league has three current broadcast partners: Fox, ESPN and TBS.

ESPN also has rights to the Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game each July.

TBS will air Sunday afternoon regular season games (non-exclusive) nationally from 2008 to 2013. In 2007, TBS began its exclusive rights to any tiebreaker games that determine division or wild card champions at the end of each regular season in the event of a tie with one playoff spot remaining and exclusive coverage of the Division Series round of the playoffs. TBS carries the League Championship Series that are not included under Fox’s television agreement; TBS shows the National League Championship Series in odd-numbered years and the American League Championship Series in even-numbered years as part of the new contract through 2013.

The iPhone 3GS is the third generation of iPhone designed and marketed by Apple Inc. It was introduced on June 8, 2009 at the WWDC 2009 which took place at the Moscone Center, San Francisco.

Major League Baseball on Fox or MLB on Fox is the Fox Broadcasting Company’s presentation of Major League Baseball games, produced by Fox Sports. Major League Baseball on Fox began on June 1, 1996 and will continue at least through the 2013 World Series.

Major League Baseball made a deal with Fox and NBC on November 7, 1995. Fox paid a fraction less of the amount of money that CBS had paid for the Major League Baseball television rights for the 1990–1993 seasons. Unlike the previous television deal, “The Baseball Network”, Fox reverted to the format of televising regular season games (approximately 16 weekly telecasts that normally began on Memorial Day weekend) on Saturday afternoons. Fox did however, continue a format that The Baseball Network started by offering games based purely on a viewer’s region. Fox’s approach has usually been to offer four regionalized telecasts, with exclusivity from 1–4 p.m. in each time zone.

When Fox first got into baseball, it used the motto “Same game, new attitude.” Fox’s primary goal when they first launched baseball was to promote their weak prime time schedule. “We’ll use the World Series and League Championship Series to spur our shows”, said network sports president Ed Goren.

Like its predecessor NBC, Fox determined its Saturday schedule by who was playing a team from one of the three largest television markets: New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago. If there was a game which combined two of these three markets, it would be aired.
